CAIRN TERRIER CLUB CENTENARY WEEKEND
JOINT CAIRN TERRIER CLUBS
DOGS – Congratulations to the Cairn Terrier Club`s wonderful committee who allowed
us to celebrate our centenary year in style. I am biased of course, but I thought
both shows and the social side were run to perfection. The venues were good and welcoming
with the space we needed. How so many overseas visitors circumnavigated the problems
caused by Iceland`s volcano eruption I shall never know, but then this was typical
of our breed`s character, and undoubtedly these visitors contributed greatly to the
weekend`s atmosphere and success. We also had some very welcome visitors from our
home shores, and it was good to see them enjoying themselves. I enjoyed watching
my co-judge, Lydia Hutchinson, at work & we agreed happily on all the major awards.
BIS was Ch Larchlea Licence To Thrill at Stanedykes; RBIS & BCC, Swed Ch Hjohoo`s
Hjour Love Is My Life; BP, Stryveling Sweet Caroline; & BV, Ch/Norw/Dan/Fin/Swed
Ch Birselaw Billy Fury
V – 7 to 9 years (5) 1 Catto`s Ch/Norw/Dan/Fin/Swed Ch Birselaw Billy Fury, will
be 8 in August but certainly does not look it. Lovely brindle boy, beautiful head,
great to see that very good jaw with big teeth & full dentition, good front, very
good strong hindquarters, good tail, excellent rib, has thickened a little in body
which is not surprising at his age, good bone, legs & feet, coat in good condition,
moves & shows so well. RCC, only beaten by his son; 2 Hogarty`s Ch/Ir Ch Cadagio
As Good As It Gets An.Ch`04, I also liked very much, good neck, topline & tail, in
good coat, good showman. At 7 years old has a little more scope than 1 but Fury is
so well knit & very much the complete dog; 3 Parker-Tucker`s Ch Uniquecottage Tidy
Shoes, looking very well at 9 ½, excellent body, rib & coat. V- 10 years & over (3,1a)
1 Wall`s Ch Shearwater Cae de Sonhas WW`02, amazing to think he is nearly 12 years
old. Looked superb & showed his heart out, really enjoyed himself moving with panache
if a bit too proud in front. Good head, excellent dentition, good topline & tail,
in good coat & condition; 2 Jennings` Doonrae Virtuoso, super head, at 13 ½ looked
the part & did his best both moving & showing, not the topline of 1 but a real Cairn.
MP(5,2) all in the 6 months age bracket but at different stages of growth. 1 Confue`s
Anjofra I`m Not Going; 2 Cameron`s Stryveling Rocket Man; 3 Inett & Heidecker`s Hydecastle
Reg The Rocket. All had very good dentition. 1 had that little extra length of leg
which gave a better topline on the move, good to go over, nice neck, shoulders, topline
& front, coat in good condition. 2 is very attractive & promising but dropped a shade
in front; 3 had a very good body but is softer all through. P (9,1) 1 Inett`s Carradines
Crackaway Jack, well grown red br, masculine, very expressive, pleasing neck, shoulders,
topline & tailset, in good coat for age, moved out well but needs to steady in front,
showed steadily. BPD; 2 Felters & Rumens` Landbuck Tillisch, very attractive light
red but carrying too much weight on the day & was unsettled. Good head, pleasing
bone, legs & feet. Will have better days; 3 Percy`s Winetta Sir Percy. J(2) 1 Weinberger`s
Correnie Tornado, promising light grey, quality head, good length of leg but still
at the legs & wings stage, good topline & tailset, well made hindquarters. Little
too fancy in front movement but that`s his age & pride. A great character; 2 Lamb
& Saltmarsh`s Birselaw Fable, very good coat texture, pleasing head, not just as
good in hindquarters & tail carriage as 1 but looked well. Y(9) 1 Theodorsson`s
Hjohoo`s Hjo Are My Gold Nugget, mature wheaten, very stylish, moved & showed well
making the very most of himself, good front, bone, legs & feet, well ribbed, well
set tail with plenty behind it, coat in lovely condition; 2 Shopland`s Cherrycrack
Blackadder, younger grey, very good type, lovely head & expression, good neck & shoulders,
nice outline, well made & a good mover but still needs a little more finish; 3 Warne`s
Spirebrooke Dawn Raider. N(5,2) 1 Goldfinch`s Kanawha Kaught In A Draught, only 11
months & still very immature but made on pleasing lines & moved freely with drive,
nice coat texture; 2 Buchan`s Auchinkyle Super Stan, nice Cairn with good balance
in outline, not just as good in front & a touch bold in eye, good hindquarters; 3
Sinclair`s Larchlea Hard Day`s Night. PG(10) 1 Weinberger`s Larchlea Come Fly With
Me to Correnie, I liked this br very much & think he will have a good future. Good
head, pleasing neck, shoulders, topline & tailset. Very young & needs more maturity
but has everything to make a name for himself; 2 Parker-Tucker`s Uniquecottage Raleigh,
very good bodied grey, ribs carried well back, nice bone, typical head, good coat.
Could have made more of himself on the move; 3 Goud`s Vale of Atholl`s Shaggy Grey
Buck. ML(1) 1 Wall`s Cloverbrook Ray Of Sunshine over Shearwater JW, lovely heather
br, good head & expression, pleasing neck, shoulders, topline & tailset, moved &
showed well. L(9,1) 1 Lindborg & Nordstrand`s Rasken`s Riding Pawnee, very nice
typical red, expressive, good neck, shoulders & outline, well made firm hindquarters,
moved & showed well, in good coat & condition; 2 Marshall`s Strathgarten Crackerjack,
I liked this red very much, pleasing size, nicely balanced. These 2 behaved badly
at the end but are both nice Cairns; 3 Mosaeley & Inett`s Spawyche Elizabethan Onyx.
O(14,1) Pollock`s Ch Larchlea Licence To Thrill at Stanedykes, it is difficult to
say who tried harder not to win, handler or dog! However, I found the dog was the
best made, the best balanced & in the end the best mover, so I was happy to forgive
the lack of attention! A really lovely Cairn, beautifully balanced, no exaggerations,
good head, pleasing neck, shoulders, topline & tailset, good front & feet, well bodied,
good ribs, well made firm hindquarters. CC & BIS; 2 Templeton`s Ch Larchlea Time
To Entertain, I loved this quality dark grey with his gorgeous head & expression,
& excellent coat which is harsh right down to his tight feet. Very good neck, shoulders,
topline & tailset. I would like a little more width & strength in hindquarters but
a good sensible dog with delightful temperament; 3 Middlehurst`s Ch Zalazar Un Zipped!
At Starveren, another lovely dog, fully mature with very good body, rib & bone &
nice firm loin & croup. B(2) 1 B Fable; 2 Ough`s Ocedar Zephyr, is coming up 7 &
is now rather heavy in front, good body, bone & rib, his red br coat is not at its
best but the texture is good. Breeders Group (1) Templeton`s, a very impressive typy
group. FERELITH
