CAIRN TERRIER CLUB OPEN SHOW Critique
Saturday 8th October 2011
I would like to sincerely thank the officers and committee of The Cairn Terrier Club for inviting me to judge their Open Show, and also my steward for doing such an efficient job. Thank you also for the beautiful gifts – which are being put to good use! Another thanks must go to the exhibitors, many of whom had less than perfect journeys to the venue due to roadworks. It was a privilege to go over such sound and happy Cairns, and I had a lovely day that I will never forget.
Minor Puppy Dog (2,1a)
1) Catto’s Birselaw Bobby Darin An 8 month old wheaten dog with the makings of a super head with mischievous expression. Correct mouth, good length of neck, level topline and correct tailset. Very well balanced. Coat of correct texture. Moved freely and with drive and confidence both ways. Showed really well for his handler. An exciting prospect. BPD,BPIS
Puppy Dog (0)
Junior Dog (4,1a)
1) Latimer’s Birselaw Sir Bobby A 14month old wheaten brindle dog with typical dark points. Masculine head with good stop, correct mouth and full head furnishings. Good neck, depth of forechest and correct shoulders, topline and tailset. Presented in good coat and in fit, muscular condition. A well made, honest dog, unobtrusively handled, who moved soundly both ways and showed well to take RBD.
2) Lamb and Saltmarsh’s Renshaw There and Back Again A smaller dog than 1) with correct head, good stop and correct mouth. Good reach of neck, level topline and correct tailset. Showed well for his handler – preferred the front movement of 1) on the day.
Maiden Dog (1,1a)
Novice Dog (2,1a)
1) Latimer’s Birselaw Sir Bobby
Graduate Dog (7.0a)
1) Cameron’s Stryveling Rocket Man An extrovert two year old red dog – well made throughout with typical head and expression, good front, depth of forechest, correct shoulder placement, level topline and correct tailset. Lively on the move, but settled enough eventually for me to see sound movement both ways. Pushed hard for RBD, but I preferred the substance of the Junior/Novice winner on the day.
2) Templeton’s Larchlea I Want to Break Free Dark brindle 18 month old dog with an attractive head and very mischievous expression. Good reach of neck and level topline. A little proud with his tail today which distracted from his overall outline. Preferred the front movement of 1). Showed very well for his handler.
3) Lamb and Saltmarsh’s Birselaw Fable
Limit Dog (0)
Open Dog (1,0a)
1) Smith’s Ch.Rocasovale Razzle Dazzle A 5 year old dark brindle, thoroughly masculine dog. Superb, fully furnished head – what a wicked expression! Correct mouth, excellent neck, forechest and shoulder placement – well balanced throughout with good topline and tailset. Correct coat. Moved soundly and enthusiastically both ways and showed very well for his handler. Obviously a worthy champion (and I think he knows it!). Pushed hard for BIS, but unlucky to come across the Best Bitch in such superb form today. BD, BOS, RBIS
Veteran Dog/Bitch (2,0a)
1) Berrecloth’s Sybster Spring Into Summer A lively 8 and a half dark brindle bitch with good head, correct mouth, good reach of neck and depth of forechest. Level topline and correct tailset. Moved and showed well, enjoying her day.
2) Berrecloth’s Ch. Sybster Spring Time ShCM The litter brother of 1). Masculine head, good reach of neck and shoulder placement. Well balanced throughout and moved and showed soundly. A lovely pair of veterans.
Special Owners Dog/Bitch (2,2a)
Special New Members Open Dog/Bitch (3,2a)
1) Goldie’s Ruadh Dana A pretty, petite 23 month old wheaten bitch, well made throughout underneath her profuse coat. Moved freely and happily on a loose lead and developed in confidence as the class progressed. Showed well for her handler.
Minor Puppy Bitch (4,0a)
1) Shaw’s Honeyhall Hearsay A very attractive seven month old wheaten bitch with typical dark points. Very feminine head, good stop, earset and excellent mouth. Beautifully balanced throughout. Moved very soundly both ways – impressive for one so young. Eager to please her handler. BPB – pressed hard for BPIS. Will watch her progress with interest.
2) Percy’s Winetta Unforgettable A lively and attractive feminine bitch. Good head, length of neck, level topline and correct tailset. Well made throughout and moved soundly both ways. Showed well for her handler. Another one to watch – it was a very close decision between 1) and 2) and in the end she had to give way to the self assurance and slightly more polished performance of 1).
3) Watt’s Birselaw Bedazzled to Jancairn
Puppy Bitch (2,0a)
1) Percy’s Winetta Rebel Rebel Another lovely puppy from this kennel. Good head and expression, correct mouth, well balanced throughout. Moved and showed well.
2) Catto’s Birselaw Groovy Kind of Love Wheaten bitch in good coat, nicely balanced throughout, moved and showed steadily. Needs time.
Junior Bitch (2,1a)
1) Buchan’s Carradine Little Cracker at Drayhem A dark brindle 15 month old bitch with good head, stop and correct mouth. Good coat , moved well and with drive and enthusiasm. Just lacked a little showmanship on the day.
Maiden Bitch (4,2a)
1) Watt’s Birselaw Bedazzled to Jancairn A 7 month old happy wheaten bitch with typical head and expression. Good coat. Movement okay.
2) Miller’s Cornton Diabaig A dark brindle 8 month old bitch with a very mischievous expression! Moved okay.
Novice Bitch (2,0)
1) Bownesswith’s Birselaw Folksong A silver brindle bitch with a pretty head and correct mouth. Well made throughout with an excellent coat. Moved enthusiastically –liked her hind action.
2) Dawson’s Sybster Sauvignon
Graduate Bitch (7,0a)
1) Percy’s Winetta Miss Independant A very well presented wheaten feminine bitch
with a beautiful head -
2) Smith’s Anjofra Plum Tart at Rocasovale Another bitch with a lovely head and expression. Good neck, shoulder placement and depth of rib. Moved well both ways.
3) Berrecloth’s Sybster Sunday Best
Limit Bitch (2,0a)
1) Cameron’s Stryveling Sweet Caroline An aptly named cream bitch with a streak of mischief in her expression. Feminine head, with neat ears and a definite stop. Correct length of neck, good shoulder placement, level topline and good tailset. Good coat. Moved very well both ways, and with drive. Showed well for her handler. Seriously considered for RBIS. RBB
2) Miller’s Cornton Reay A happy grey bitch with an attractive head, good eye and ear set. Well made all through with level topline and correct tailset. In good condition and moved freely.
Open Bitch (1,0a)
1) Shaw’s Honeyhall Hi ‘N’ Dry An ultra feminine, eye catching cream bitch with typical dark points. Super head with excellent mouth, strong jaw, good stop, dark expressive eyes (on the lookout for adventure!), good ear placement. Impressed in every department and presented an excellent outline on the table. Correct coat. Moved freely, correctly and with drive, holding her topline on the move. Beautifully presented and showed her heart out. Could not be denied top honours today. I learned later that she had received her first CC the week before. BB, BIS
